The Flying Pigeon LA bike shop hosts a gathering this Friday, September 9, 2011 at 7 p.m.
It’s a catered get-together, and will included some short films from Streetsfilms, and talk about where to take our dreams of a better North Figueroa Street.
At the last meeting, some form of protected, or buffered, bikeway was on a lot of people’s minds, as was a safe and less noisy street. There was also a lot of talk about better prospects for local merchants through easier pedestrian, transit, and bicycle access to local businesses.
Our common vision seemed to be steering itself towards a “complete street”, and away from North Figueroa’s current configuration as a “Secondary Highway, Class II” (i.e. a car-only thoroughfare) .
There is a lot left to do! First, we have to all make sure that the food provided is consumed with something worthwhile to drink. Second, some short films from Streetsfilms will need to be watched – they are quick, inspiring, and educational. Finally, we’ll have to develop some small projects, a plan of action, and a rough schedule for our outreach efforts.
Since this is an un-funded grass-roots thing, having fun is highly encouraged. Speaking freely is a must. Kids are welcome. The whole thing should be wrapped up by 9:30 or 10 p.m.
Food will be served – vegan and vegetarian friendly for sure!
